Of course! What in English is “Elbow grease” in Italian is “Olio di gomito” (Who needs grease when you have olive oil?).
“Gomito” means “Elbow” in English, comes from the Greek “Kybiton” and it’s also the origin of the words Gibbosity, gibbous, etc.
An other expression with the word “Gomito” is “Alzare il gomito” ( to raise your elbow – that’s what you do when you drink-) meaning
“To drink too much”.
Remember, don’t spill olive oil while you ‘re drinking and don’t forget to polish your bottles..
A domani.
Pier.
